Economist Roundtable: Shanghai - March 28/29

Really excited to be speaking at the Economist's Third China Branding Roundtable: Standing out in a crowd. It's at the Pudong Shangri-La, Shanghai on Tuesday March 28th 2006 - Wednesday March 29th 2006. To find out more, click here.
I am honored to be presenting along with Professor Lydia Price of the China Europe International Business School. We will be talking about new media and how to think about it. Anongst other things, she has written (and will explore here) a case study about China's Super Voice Girl that makes American Idol look like a Junior Highschool talent show.
Should be fun!

The panel is called "Alternative Media & Advertising: Personalized Consumer Broadband, RSS Feeds, Blogging and Podcasting" It's on Wednesday, September 21 at 2:15 PM - 3:30 PM at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel.
Interesting group of others on the panel:

- Willow Baum Lundgren, Head of Marketing, Umbria
- Richard Sharp, CEO, PodChannels, Inc.

Also, Duane Dahl, CEO of PefectMatch (a terrific Ignition portfolio company) will be on a panel at the same time, about "Building Brands, Hollywood Style - Word of Mouth and Community Marketing." I wish I could be in both places at the same time.

MIT Enterprise Forum
Had a great opportuntity to talk with 70 or so folks at the MIT Enterprise Forum. I was surprised at the number and diversity of folks there. Got to meet the Canadian Consul here in Seattle. Lots of great questions.
The main topic was how to pitch venture capitalists. Steve Wood did a great job explaining the mechanics and how it looked from an entrepreneurs point of view. So that I could focus on what folks really want to hear.
What is it? Well, a well run play of course. The heart of a great business plan is a playing field gap that folks can believe in and a play that really exploits it.
Thanks much to Teresa Yueh for inviting us over there!
